Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz unleashed their collaborative LP, ColleGrove, in March. The days leading up to its debut were filled with record releases. “Rolls Royce Weather Everyday” was performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, “Gotta Lotta” premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, and four other songs were unveiled on ColleGrove radio on Beats 1. “Bounce’s” official video came soon after, allowing fans a chance to witness the creative chemistry between the two rappers.
In the second part of Genius five-part exclusive, 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne speak on the vibe of “Bounce.” “If it was anything it was friendly competition,” Wayne tells Rob Markman. “It’s only to make each other better.” From here, Wayne reflected on his days as part of the Hot Boys where Baby and Slim fostered a competitive spirit between label mates. “You would know that whoever they think has the hottest verse, they would put that verse first,” he says.
2 Chainz follows up by recapping the reaction he received from his engineer and his chef, who both helped instigate the competitive vibes of “Bounce.” ColleGrove isn’t their first shot at collaborating. Longtime fans have heard the two trade bars on songs like “Duffle Bag Boy” and “Rich As F*ck.”
Genius will be rolling out this ColleGrove special sit-down all week. Watch part 2 above.
