Director Peter Berg (Hancock, Lone Survivor) just launched a new production company titled Film 45 that will focus on non-scripted productions for film, television and other platforms, Deadline reports. The company’s first order of business is to produce a feature-length documentary about R&B superstar Rihanna. Peter Berg will direct the film, bringing the two together for the second time following his 2012 sci-fi action film Battleship.
The currently untitled film will serve as a contemporary take on the 1967 Bob Dylan documentary, Dont Look Back. Berg described the film to Deadline as an “unfiltered look into Rihanna’s life and how she’s ascended to become a global icon.” Berg said he will approach the documentary as “much more a character study than a music film,” and that he wants to explore the “young artist at the top of her professional field.”
Berg gave Rihanna her first acting gig in Battleship; since then she’s appeared in films like This Is the End, Annie, and Home, and will star in Luc Besson’s anticipated sci-fi flick Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets alongside Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne. As for her music career, Rihanna released her eighth studio album Anti earlier this year and is currently on her seventh tour.
There’s no word on a potential release date or what time period this doc will follow, but with the superstar currently involved in so many ventures, now seems like the best time to fully capture her influence.
