After landing roles in films such as Selma and Dear White People and impressing audiences worldwide as the fearless singer-songwriter Bianca in Ryan Coogler’s Rocky spinoff, Creed, Tessa Thompson will make her way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Thor: Ragnarok. According to Deadline, sources close to the film confirm her appearance in Ragnarok as not only a love interest for Chris Hemsworth, but as a “kind of superhero” that will eventually go on to appear in future Marvel films.
Thompson is the latest name to join director Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, which boasts Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, reprising his role of Bruce Banner. Hemsworth and Ruffalo are the only two Avengers not making an appearance in Anthony and Joe Russo’s extremely anticipated blockbuster, Captain America: Civil War. Other heavyweights attached to Ragnarok include Cate Blanchett, who’s been cast as Asgardian goddess of death Hela, Samuel L. Jackson, who will once again star as ringleader Nick Fury, Tom Hiddleston, and Jamie Alexander. But with Ragnarok reportedly focusing more on Asgard and other worlds, don’t expect to see Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgård, or Kat Dennings return for the latest outing.
This is a huge milestone for Thompson, who has quickly become a household name. She follows in the steps of Coogler, who is directing (and co-writing) Marvel’s Black Panther, which stars Chadwick Boseman.
Production for Thor: Ragnarok is set to commence some time in June, with the film slated for a November 3, 2017, release.
